A bit of history…
The vegetable garden of 8,000m² was created by the Colbert family in 1768. It was then later restored between 1820 and 1840. As the lineage of the Colberts died out, the Bergère family, rich manufacturers in Cholet, purchased it in 1893. The garden was then at its apex of beauty.
They achieved many laying-outs and built a new greenhouse, part of which can be admired today. Until the Second World War the garden was a masterpiece for its management and its production.
From 1946 to 1977 the property was left in the care of a church’s congregation who would eventually abandon the garden after trying to transform it. This manicured and much loved place remained totally denatured for 50 years until the arrival of the current owners Jean-Louis and Dominique Popihn who decided in 2011 to restore the entirety of it.
